Metered Poetry

I Left My Hope Back Then

I used to have a dream of We
With me perched like a bluebird
Upon your knee
While you read to me
And sang me poetry

I had so much hope back then.

Though our starlight burned
Ever so bright, and I was pulled
Into you, drawn to your light
We never could quite intertwine

I held onto hope back then.

In glances I recall your shine
Before I lament the hand that
Could not hold mine

And I sigh

And sigh

And sigh

And repine

I left my hope back then.
