Thank You for Leaving the Light On

Thank you for leaving the light on.
You may see it as an innocuous thing;
But to me:

It is a lighthouse, towering
over a dark and foggy night,
and I am alone on this
salt black sea, searching
for hope, for home;
until I see you there, shining
all the way to the heavens
for me.

Thank you for leaving the light on.
You may think it such an innocuous thing;
But to me:

It is an aurora borealis, bursting
through the dark, cold grip
of Winter’s night; your light
falls in brilliant columns
of stardust, all greens
and yellows and reds, dancing
like ocean tides, beckoning me
to join the fray.
