Metered Poetry

Only Silence Answers Back

What do we do when we can’t say
the words we’re meant to say?
What do I do when you won’t stay
and I can’t walk away?

Oh, what is this sheen of shattered reveries
guarding the moments held between
two hearts no longer willing to be seen?

No matter how I plead, only silence answers back;
thick velvet curtains quickly fall,
and the spotlight fades to black.
