Mercy, Judges. Mercy.

To be talked of so plainly
Like reading items on a grocery list
To be spoken about so dispassionately
Like spotting the differences between
Two photographs
So demoralizing, so debasing
Finding someone’s humanity through
Dehumanizing. Among clerical piles of white paper.
What a shock, how surreal.
To be told who you are
With scans and graphs and charts
And long-winded terminology
Only a small sect understand
With no venturing, no exploration
To what’s held within the rooms of
Her heart.
