After the Christening

Let’s not focus on beauty
Someday there will be none
Nor let’s focus on the mind
For that’ll wink out well before

We take our final breaths
Instead let’s think about
That soft beige rabbit
Our young Tommy left to
Sunbathe on that long
And worn picnic table

Instead let’s hold onto
This wide open sky
Shifting every few minutes
Between brilliant sunshine
And gray shady clouds

The body and the mind
Are certain to waste away
But the scent memories of
Sunshine and rolling clouds
And that furry brown rabbit
We nearly forgot (nearly)
Just might last
