Metered Poetry

For a Bee on a Purple Thistle

Thistled purple sanctuary
A little bee nests
Also—he rests
From the great wide ordinary
While life undulates between
Simplicity and elderberry
Crown-head blossoms, honey-white
Where the bee will never bite
He sips slowly, rests, resides
Within the thistle’s soft palms
Upon its thorny smile
