Tear-Stained Poems

Bring the most pain
Just imagine the scene—

A collection of dark letterings
Swimming in falling pools of salt
Every word on the page absorbs
The only message its fair reader
Can convey as their eyes trace
Each turn of phrase and each
Flowery or fraught feeling
Found in the poet’s nimble pen
Somehow in silence they speak
As only intimate friends can do

The book will eventually close
The page inevitably turns over
But the poem has still absorbed the tears
The reader has swallowed up the words
They will never be truly parted now
